Interim vs full

Which service does your car need?

Two schedules, and the honest answer is that most drivers need one of each on alternating years.

Interim Service

every 6 months or 6,000 miles

The safety-and-fluids service. Right for high-mileage drivers, anyone doing a lot of short urban trips, and as a mid-year check between full services.

  • Engine oil and oil filter replaced
  • All fluid levels checked and topped: coolant, brake fluid, power steering, screenwash
  • Tyre condition, pressures and tread depth
  • Brake check — pads, discs, lines
  • Lights, wipers, horn, battery condition
  • Visual inspection of steering, suspension, exhaust and drivebelts
  • Around 30 checkpoints in total

Full Service

every 12 months or 12,000 miles

Everything in the interim, plus the consumables that wear out annually.

  • Air filter replaced
  • Cabin/pollen filter replaced
  • Fuel filter replaced where the schedule calls for it
  • Spark plugs replaced on petrol engines at the correct interval
  • Brake fluid tested for moisture content
  • Coolant strength tested
  • Full brake inspection with wheels removed
  • Suspension, steering and driveshaft inspection on the ramp
  • Around 60 checkpoints in total

Not sure which service to choose?
Give us your registration and mileage and we'll tell you what's actually due based on your manufacturer's schedule - not on which one costs more.

Warranty

Servicing here won't void your manufacturer warranty

This is the single most common worry we hear, and the answer is a flat no.

Under the Motor Vehicle Agreements Block Exemption Order 2023 — the UK law that replaced the old EU regulations, in force until 2029 — a manufacturer cannot require you to use a main dealer to keep your warranty valid. You're free to use an independent garage, provided the service follows the manufacturer's schedule and uses parts of matching quality.

That's exactly what we do. Manufacturer-spec parts, manufacturer schedules, your service book stamped and the work recorded on the digital service record where your vehicle uses one.

What you save is real. Main-dealer servicing typically runs 40–60% more than an independent garage doing the same schedule with the same parts. On a car under warranty, that's a few hundred pounds a year for no difference in the work or your cover.

If a dealer has told you otherwise, they're either mistaken or hoping you don't check.

How we work

Nothing gets done until you say so

Every service ends with a conversation, not a bill you weren't expecting.

If we find something while the car's on the ramp, we photograph it, call you, and quote it. You decide. If you'd rather wait, or get a second opinion, or have it done somewhere else, that's fine — we'll tell you how urgent it actually is so you can make that call properly.

We also separate two things that garages often blur together: what needs doing now and what will need doing eventually. A brake pad with 4mm left isn't an emergency. We'll note it, tell you roughly how long you've got, and look at it again next time.

You'll get back a stamped service book, an itemised invoice, and a straight summary of your car's condition.

Service and MOT together

Book your service and MOT on the same visit

A service and an MOT check different things - the MOT is a legal safety and emissions test on the day, the service is preventative maintenance on wear items. Doing both in one visit means one trip, one drop-off, and any advisories from the test can be dealt with while the car's already up.

We're a DVSA Approved Test Station, so both happen here, on our ramps, on the same day.

An independent garage, not a main dealer

Main dealer servicing costs more for the same job. We use manufacturer-spec parts and follow the same schedules... your warranty stays valid under Block Exemption rules, and you keep the difference.

You speak to the mechanic

Not a service advisor reading off a screen. If something's wrong, the person who found it explains it.

No work without your say-so

We photograph the problem, call you, quote it, and wait. Nothing gets done until you agree.

Local, and staying local

10 years on Purfleet Road off of the Arterial Road in Aveley, mostly working on repeat customers and their neighbours.

Honest advisories

If a tyre has 5,000 miles left in it, we'll tell you that instead of selling you a new one today.

Frequently Asked Servicing Questions

How often should I service my car?

expand_circle_down

Most manufacturers specify a full service every 12 months or 12,000 miles, with an interim at the 6-month mark for higher-mileage drivers. Your handbook has the exact schedule, or tell us your reg and we'll check.

Will servicing at an independent garage void my warranty?

expand_circle_down

No. Under the Motor Vehicle Agreements Block Exemption Order 2023, manufacturers can't require main-dealer servicing to keep a warranty valid, as long as the correct schedule and matching-quality parts are used. We stamp your book and record the work digitally.

What's the difference between a service and an MOT?

expand_circle_down

An MOT is a legal safety and emissions test showing whether your vehicle meets the standard on that day. A service is preventative maintenance — replacing oil, filters and worn parts before they cause a problem. An MOT pass doesn't mean your car doesn't need servicing.

How long does a service take?

expand_circle_down

An interim service is usually 1–2 hours. A full service takes most of the day, particularly if the wheels come off for a full brake inspection.

Will you do work without asking me?

expand_circle_down

No. If we find something, we'll photograph it, call you with a price, and wait for your answer.

Do you stamp the service book?

expand_circle_down

Yes, and we log the service digitally on manufacturers that use an electronic service record.
